Update AFL Grand Final Public Holiday
UPDATE AFL GRAND FINAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Last week, the Queensland Premier announced that the AFL grand Final would be played at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, 24 October, 2020. It’s the first time the grand final has ever been played outside of Melbourne and was a decision made due to Victoria’s coronavirus restrictions.
Although Queensland will be hosting the AFL Grand Final this year, Victorians will still get a public holiday.
The Victorian government has locked in the AFL Grand Final public holiday for Friday, 23 October, 2020 (the day before the AFL Grand Final), but is also a holiday to say “thank you” to frontline workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is important to note that Queensland employees will not be getting this public holiday.
