5 actionable tips for modern career planning

5 actionable tips for modern career planning

Excerpt from article published by By Emma Edwards on ABC Everyday. View full article here.

1.   Look back on past experiences, even your first-ever job, and list out things you liked and disliked about it. Do this for a few jobs and look for patterns that could inform a future role.

2.   Spend some time thinking about what drives you and what you value. What makes you angry, what fires you up, what makes you want to take action?

3.   Get on LinkedIn and browse your network for inspiration. Look at the career paths of people you admire, and even reach out to them for guidance on how they got to where they are. You never know where a conversation could lead.

4.   Listen to what people say about you, and think about how you can spin these into your professional identity and use them to your advantage.

5.   Set 2-3 mini milestones or achievements you’d like to reach more generally, as opposed to a set career plan. What are some things you’d like to be able to do in the next few years; for example, lead a team of three, or run a meeting, or present a sales pitch. These things can be done in all kinds of careers but still get you thinking about what success and progression means to you.
