When you register for temporary or contract employment with Dixon Appointments you will be required to demonstrate that you have a legal entitlement to work in Australia. Even if you are born in Australia, this is required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Please bring either the original documents or a certified copy.
NOTE: For information about certified copies, see What is a Certified Copy?
The following documents are suitable to confirm your right to work in Australia:
  • Visa Details
  • Passport
  • Australian Citizenship Certificate
  • Birth Certificate and Photo ID

For information on Visa and immigration issues, visit The Department of Immigration and Citizenship website at http://immi.gov.au.

Temporary Staff Forms

If you are registering for temporary work with Dixon Appointments you will be required to complete a number of employment forms. You can complete them in our office prior to your interview or, to save time, download them here, print copies, complete them and bring them to the interview with you.

Your Tax File Number and the Australian Tax Office (ATO)

Once you start working with Dixon Appointments, your Tax Declaration will be lodged with the ATO. They allow you 28 days from commencing employment to provide us with your tax file number. If you fail to do so, you will be taxed at a higher rate than may otherwise be applicable. The ATO website provides information on your entitlements, so if you have questions or wish to check your correct tax scale visit http://ato.gov.au.

Superannuation

If you wish to nominate your own superannuation fund, complete the SuperChoice form carefully and provide all required information as your request cannot be processed if information is missing. Once we have received a fully completed application, we have 60 days to process your application and arrange to pay contributions into that fund. You are entitled to change funds once a year by submitting a completed SuperChoice form. Until Dixon Appointments has received and processed your completed SuperChoice form and compliance statement, your superannuation will be paid to VicSuper.

Are you a PAYG Employee or an ABN Contractor?

As Dixon Appointments will pay you while on assignment, you need to establish the legal basis of your employment.
PAYG Employees: For most people this will be as an individual PAYG employee, so Dixon Appointments will withhold tax and remit it to the ATO, cover your insurances including WorkCover, and contribute to your superannuation fund. All you need to do is complete a Tax Declaration and provide your Tax File Number (see Temporary Staff Forms).
Contractors: To be recognised as a Contractor, your company needs to be an Australian Private Company or Trust Structure. You will be required to provide information to Dixon Appointments prior to any assignment, quarterly and on renewal of a contract. Your checklist includes:
  • Your ABN, ACN and details to enable an ABN search and proof of registration for GST
  • Your company bank details
  • Company WorkCover certificate of currency
  • Company Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance certificates of currency
  • Verification that you are a Director of the company
  • Substantiation that this contract with Dixon Appointments is not your sole source of income
  • Substantiation of superannuation payments

Please note: Sole Traders are treated in the same manner as individual PAYG employee as the ATO does not distinguish between them for labour hire purposes.

What is a Certified Copy?

To have documentation certified you need to take your original transcripts/documents and a copy of each transcript to an authorised person in your community. Authorised persons include Justices of the Peace, Notary Publics, lawyers/solicitors, Magistrates offices and Police Officers and School Teachers or University professors. They need to sign on your copies that they are true and correct, print their name and position and if possible affix an official stamp.
